The wind turbine company Vestas, has withdrawn its plan to build a manufacturing plant at Sheerness Dock, which could have created up to 2000 jobs.
Council Leader Andrew Bowles said: “It is extremely disappointing to have got so far down this route only for Vestas to withdraw. However, our work is not wasted and we will continue to look forwards. We remain convinced that Sheerness is the best location for wind turbine manufacture and assembly on the east coast of Britain, and we will work with Peel Ports to attract another operator who can build on the groundwork we have already done”.
